Go On Your Own Quest is a free 24-week screenwriting program* that Scott Myers of Go Into The Story initiated in 2012 as a complement to his Screenwriting Master Class premium intensive Questclass.
Here at the Black Board, we’ve archived the full GOYOQ series–and we’re here to do everything we can to support you in using the GOYOQ program to write a complete first draft of a 90+ page feature film in 24 weeks. (Doesn’t that sound exciting!)
Plus we run a Weekly Check In where everyone can discuss their GOYOQ progress.
And (of course!) you’re welcome to make yourself at home in the site at large, too.
Are you ready to get started on Go On Your Own Quest? Go to the Core Index and just follow the links from there.
We are so happy to have your company and so excited to be going through GOYOQ with you! If you have any questions or concerns or suggestions, just spit them out, and we’ll be delighted to help.
Shaula & your moderator team

The Quest is now live!
The first post of the Core series is up:
And we’ll have more posts every week day throughout GOYOQ.July 19, 2013 at 4:22 pm #21410
Update Did you see we’ve added Writing Exercises to GOYOQ? If you’re itching to get to past theory and get to work on your GOYOQ, go check them out.
PS You can click on “subscribe” in the top right corner of this thread if you’d like to automatically receive GOYOQ updates.July 26, 2013 at 2:05 pm #22423
Update If you’re joining Go On your Quest after it has already started, that’s no problem at all. The program is designed so you can follow along in your own time so it’s never too late to start.
If you’ve found us and you’re ready to jump in, or if you just want to take a look around and check it out, a great place to start is with this handy index that will point you at all the GOYOQ posts, in order, so you can follow along in sequence and you never have to worry about missing out or being behind (there’s no “behind!”):September 24, 2013 at 4:58 am #28633
Hi Shaula, I have taken some of the online courses Scott Myers is teaching. He referred me to this site and encouraged me follow the Go On Your Own Quest program. The first draft process begins October 21 and goes for 10 weeks. Is that right?
Can you tell me how and when to sign up?
Thanks for helping out!

Hi Eddy and welcome to the Black Board (are you Eddy M by any chance?)
You can start off HERE with the main QUEST thread – feel free to read through at your leisure and catch up as you see fit, plenty of stuff to get your teeth into as you wait for the main writing push. That link is not far from where you are now and shoudl take you to the CORE and PREP posts for the Quest so far, and the intros thread and weekly check-in where you can catch up with everyone else and let us know how you are doing.
Essentially it is there for your to dip in and out of as you see fit, the main thrust of the BB is the community and the support we can all give each other as we delve into writing!
Our WELCOME THREAD will also help orient you around the site and should have a link to the Intro Thread where you can tell us about yourself and what projects you are working on.
Also, we have a MODERATOR’S HOTLINE if you have any questions about the site or how to use it.
So just get stuck in, great to see you hear and good luck!September 25, 2013 at 2:37 pm #28755
Welcome to the Board Eddy.September 26, 2013 at 12:03 am #28779
Hi, Eddy. It’s great to have you join us.
In addition to what Mark’s explained, here’s a discussion about how different participants are “doing” GOYOQ: How does Go On Your Own Quest work?
If you’d like to catch up on the conceptual stuff that Scott covered over the summer, you can check out the Core Index and work your way through those posts. You are welcome to comment on them, too–we never consider posts too old for discussion around here.
If you’re ready to jump in with prep, you can work your way through the Prep Index.
There’s no sign up required–just jump in anywhere that works for you–but if you’d like to declare your participation (which can be fun), here’s where to do it: Roll Call: Who will be questing with us?
Please let us know if you have any questions and welcome again!

Thank you Shaula, Mark and TheQuietAct for the warm welcome and info. I’m looking forward to delving into all of the stuff you suggested!
@Mark: yep, it’s me Eddy M from the online courses with Scott! It’s nice to see a familiar face/name here!
